不足する腎臓のケースでは、親族による提供手術や、患者の間で臓器をシェアするドミノ式移植という手法も発展しました。

【ドナー不足と海外流出】

それでも日本国内では、慢性的なドナー不足が続いています。患者と家族は、ひたすら与えられた時間リミットの中で、よい知らせを待機します。しかし、早期の移植が必要と診断された家族に与えられる時間は短くなります。

生きたい。..また生き長らえさせたいという切望によって、家族はジレンマを抱えます。(1)海外におけるドナーの順番待ちに割り込むことは、道徳的に許容されるだろうか。家族は、批判的な意見とも向かい合います。世界における戦争と貧困の蔓延を基準としたら、家族は犠牲は受容すべきだ。

たとえ家族がこの批判と向き合う覚悟でいても、(2)果たして義援金が集まるか解りません。(3)移植の段取りが間に合っても、患者が長距離移動に耐えらるか解りません。(4)そして、ドナーと適合するだろうか。(5)手術は成功するだろうか。(6)回復するだろうか。不確かな要素だらけです。
